Living Knot Lumber Company is an Abingdon, VA based supplier of meticulously sourced Appalachian lumber products inspiring craftsmen to breathe life into their woodworking creations.

Since 2017, we have been the go-to lumber resource for millwork operations, furniture and cabinet builders, DIYers, and artisans who share our passion for wood. Our knot head community stretches across the region, from southwestern Virginia to northeastern Tennessee, southeastern Kentucky, southern West Virginia, and western North Carolina. Our Story

Starting Living Knot Lumber Company in 2017 was a natural progression for our owner Max Morris. After growing up in a hardworking Appalachian family and spending ten years at Dwayne Ball’s Boulder Look Stone Company rubbing elbows with customers skilled in many different trades, Max saw an opportunity. Conversations with friends and customers allowed him to realize there was a void longing to be filled by a lumber company specializing in the Appalachian region’s unique hardwoods. With Dwayne’s support, Max took the leap and turned his passion for lumber, woodworking, retail, and community into the company you see today.

We have expanded from a hardwood-only operation to now (in addition to hardwoods) providing products like softwoods, exotic woods, plywoods, live edge slabs, mantels, and craft wood goods. We travel to mills throughout the Appalachian corridor and purchase lumber from West Virginia, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, New York, and Pennsylvania that specialize in certain species so we always stock the top quality products.

Our love for wood is deep-rooted, and we crave knowledge about its characteristics, quirks, species, and applications. We enjoy exchanging wisdom with all the customers (AKA “knot heads”) who cross our gravel and sawdust-covered path. We appreciate the intricate process involved in transforming our lumber into incredible, finished products.

We love assisting people in finding exactly what they're after. Helping someone create their dream project or find the perfect wood for their craft is how we carve a path to Appalachian excellence.
